Big Mac and Salary Comparison
This bar chart shows how long a cleaner should work in McDonalds before he afford to buy a Big Mac, in eleven Asian/ Pacific countries. The chart also shows the actual price of one Big Mac dollar.
The notice point in the chart is workers in most poor countries’ should work long hours to get one Big Mac. Rich countries such as Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, New Zealand and Malaysia cleaners should work fewer hours compared to poor countries to get one Big Mac. However Pakistan is the poorest country and cleaners should work 14 hours, followed by India with 9 working hours and then Sri Lanka with approximately 6 hours. The surprise fact is that workers in poor country such Philippines should work just over two hours to buy a Big Mac.
In conclusion, there is a big difference between the working hours in the poorer and the richer countries. Workers should work long hours to get one Big Mac in poor countries where the income is low while in rich countries they work fewer hours.
